In this project, I would like explore the journey my mother’s side of the family went through from Guinea-Bissau in West Africa to Portugal and my father’s side of the family from Angola to Portugal and how this culture change is evident through our family’s diversity. As a “mixed race girl” in an also diverse society, whenever I am asked about my ethnicity, I never know what the correct answer would be as there is so much history behind my skin colour. This eagerness to find out exactly what my history and ethnicity is, is what has inspired me to carry out this project. Colour has a very deep and symbolic meaning in African Fabrics as they convey certain messages when worn or displayed during significant times and situations like celebrations and mourning.
