For my year two project I decided to focus on architecture, specifically contemporary homes. I aimed to create an aesthetically pleasing structure which has a minimal design that reflects the modernist style but also includes natural elements. My final design combined nature and modernism in order to create a house that highlights the advances in architecture while still incorporating Mother Nature’s basic elements. I hope to portray the message that our environment plays a significant role in our lives and should always be involved in our designs.
During the course we have been on a number of trips. For example, the V&A Museum in London where we explored different small-scale architecture pieces and the Anthony Gormley exhibition. Also, there was an opportunity to visit the Warner Bros Studio in London to view different props used in movies such as Harry Potter. The trips were helpful as they give you a better understanding of how professional products are created so you can apply this within your own work. The main thing to grasp throughout this course is to have a good time management. The course requires different stages of development, so it is important you’re working at a steady pace and not leaving anything behind as it adds stress to you near the end of the projects.
