Aoife Cullen

The design brief for this project was to create a contrasting extension to one of the iconic buildings in Birmingham. I needed to work with the existing buildings structure and develop a bold statement piece to re-energise the original construction. The building I chose was the Library of Birmingham and the artists that inspired my designs were Zaha Hadid Fariborz Sahba.

I felt the making of my final piece did go to plan as the outcome turned out how I expected it to. I was well prepared with a clear plan of my tasks and what materials and equipment I was going to use. I had also prepared my laser cut wood before hand which meant I did not waste time waiting for it. I used my time effectively as I did not rush and I had time at the end to make any final adjustments and improvements needed. Overall I was happy with my outcome but next time I would maybe paint the laser cut wood base building to make it look more effective and maybe add more features to the techsoft sketch before laser cutting make the building look more realistic such as doors, windows etc.
