My name is Eva Barry. I am a photography student, who has many passions and I like to show my passions as well as my thoughts and feelings on current world events, and combine this into photographic art. My passions link to pop culture, mainly with the art form of drag. I find the art of drag captivating in my everyday life, and link the elements of drag, such as fashion and beauty into my pieces.
My theme in photography is fashion and beauty. I decided I wanted to cover this theme because it would allow me to take shots of themes I’m passionate about, whilst also incorporating this with portraiture work. Throughout my theme, I covered many glamour shots that correlated to many artists, as well as using various locations to take my shots. I also got the chance to research into Vogue, as well as different photographers, both world famous and social media photographers.
I decided to cover fashion and beauty throughout the decades, and looking into the 50’s-90’s. Whilst creating up ideas for shots and locations, it also allowed me to look at each decade with a clearer eye as well as learning more about the resources people had during these eras in correlation to fashion and beauty. Out of all the shots I took, I believe my most successful one was the 70’s, not only did it speak 70’s with the fashion and makeup used, the wording I used with the piece, “All over the world, everybody got the word” can link to current events today such as the pandemic, or the Black Lives Matter movement and protests, and how everyone around the world is aware of these situations.
