My theme is based around sexuality and our close relationship with nature. It progressed from the idea of ‘coming out’ to the idea of embracing who you are shown through the symbolism of natural forms. People hide away their sexuality and parts of themselves , which links to Hidden , Wrapped and Contained which was the theme we were given. I moved from figure : hands covering the face to more spontaneous watercolour to represent that the relationship between nature and people is human not ‘gender based’.
I explored sexuality through nature, using free motion embroidery in my work and mixing this with watercolour which is a technique I used for one of my final pieces.I used these mediums in a free expressive way to represent breaking free of social constructs surrounding sexuality.
