Photography / Fine Art Teacher & Curriculum Lead
I have the privilege of being the Curriculum Lead for the Creative Arts Department at Cadbury College. My personal background is in Fine Art. I learnt a great deal during my years in London; studying Art Foundation at Goldsmith’s College then going on to a Fine Art Degree at Central/St Martin’s School of Art. I introduced the A level Photography course to Cadbury College 14 years ago and thoroughly enjoy teaching both this subject, Fine art and the Life drawing enrichment. In my spare time,
I also create my own artwork and exhibit with local groups. My main passion is in the depiction of the figure in motion, be it in a detailed or more abstract form, using a variety of media. I feed my own experiences into my teaching, and the beauty about art is that we can constantly grow as an artist; experimenting, reinventing and evolving our practice ad infinitum!
A Level 3D Design Teacher
With a background routed in the Midlands Creative Arts scene I studied my degree at Wolverhampton University, widely regarded as the home of glass design in the UK. I was awarded a scholarship to study my MA at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland and really found my feet teaching at Further Education level after completing my PGCE at Nottingham Trent University. After 14 years in the profession I still have the same enthusiasm for working with young adults. Introducing them to the exciting world of 3D Design, helping them hone their natural creative talents and steering them through to the career pathway of their choice, no day is ever the same.
Alongside teaching I am passionate sculptural glass artist who is keen to continually extend and challenge my own skills, build upon my strengths and commitment to my professional development. I am fascinated by glass as a multifaceted material, one which can be manipulated in such a variety of ways and transforms itself so greatly it constantly challenges our understanding of exactly what it is.
Creative Arts Technician
I studied Art and Design at the University of Worcester enjoying this so much that I went on and did a further year in a MA of Fine art and Professional Practise. I learned about the creation and display of artwork as well as continuing to develop my own art practise of sculpture having an exhibition for my decertation at the Nathan Pitt Gallery in Worcester.
In my spare time in enjoy being creative, and love model making and DIY around the house as well as cycling which I grew to love more from cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats for charity in 2008. I also have a model railway that is a continuing project where I enjoy the precision, detail and small scale work.
It is an honour to work for Cadbury Sixth Form College and really enjoy my role, getting to put all my practical knowledge from studying and DIY to the test and being able to pass my experience on to other people and develop my knowledge every day. Being a technician I find that every day is different and so far in nearly eight years I have not stopped learning encountering so many techniques of working from metal work to ceramics from small scale model making to furniture.
A Level Textiles Teacher
I graduated in Textile Crafts from Huddersfield University where I specialised in Print & Embroidery and this led me to study within education, where I have been teaching the creative arts for 9 years.
When I am not teaching, I make clothes for my self and bespoke commissioned head pieces for formal occasions. I also love experimenting with illustration and mixed media. I have a passion for travelling and exploring new destinations around the world, and my travels have hugely inspired my love of cooking and finding new sources of inspiration for my own artwork.
Teaching is a passion that I have had since I started art college, and I feel very proud to be part of the Cadbury creative arts team, where we inspire students everyday.
A Level Art Teacher
I have been in Art Education for many years. I specialised in Graphics and Illustration for my Degree at Manchester and did a Post Graduate Course in Art Education at Birmingham I have taught all ages in a variety of educational establishments over the years. I was a Head of Art for many years in secondary schools Derby and London, and also a GCE Moderator for AQA for 10 years. The school I taught at in London was also a training school with PGCE and GTP students in all departments. My mission in life has always been to show young people how engaging with Art, Craft, and Design can make a difference to their lives. I did a short course in Art Therapy, motivated by my 2 years teaching Art in a Young Offenders institution, and seeing the difference Art made to their lives while they were in Prison. Most took Arts Courses when released, going on to Further or Higher Education. When I have time, I do portraits and interior murals. I love gardening and cooking. I have always enjoyed sport, especially tennis representing my County when I was at school, and am still a keen player. I also cycle and enjoy long walks. I thoroughly enjoy working at Cadbury College with such friendly, and supportive staff, and privileged to be working among the dedicated, and talented team of Specialists in the Creative Arts Department.
A Level 3D Design Teacher
I studied both Graphic Design and Product Design at Staffordshire University on their Multi-discipline Design course, where I graduated in Industrial design and took a role in London as a Product Designer. I started my journey in Education as part of a live project as a working professional for fun at Liverpool John Moores University and caught the teaching bug! I moved back to the Midlands and took up a part time role at a variety of 6th form colleges over 20 years mostly teaching Graphics, Animation and 3D modelling and recently moved to Cadbury college. I also work self employed as a Graphic designer in graphics, video editing and online advertising. I do love to work digitally, but enjoy exploring a wide variety of creative areas and have a keen interest in photographing my experiences in my travels and music festivals. I believe that you can never stop learning new things, improve yourself and be inspired by the world around you and that our students are unique individuals who all have their own strengths and interests to inspire us too!
A Level Graphic Communication Teacher
Strangely, I developed a passion for both photography and graphic communication whilst back-packing extensively around the world on a gap year that actually lasted nine years! When I finally decided to return to the UK and settle down a decision was made to set up a graphic/web design company and at that same time study to become a teacher and use all the life skills I picked up from my travel experiences to interact with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
Today, I feel very privileged to be teaching at Cadbury Sixth Form College as we have a wonderful team and amazing students.
My twelve years teaching and nineteen years business experience has helped shape the Graphic Communication course into something that I feel could mold/change your life forever. You will discover how powerful visual communication can be when used to its full potential; it could even help shape a better, fairer world!
